Vinyl window prices are up and continue to increase. The Houston area produces nearly 92% of the petrochemicals in the US and were devastated by the subzero temperature in February of 2021 as well as tough hurricane seasons the last couple of years. Most manufacturers are on an allocation system to try to meet the demand that has built up while working to restore capacities.
Here in Colorado that has translated into longer lead times and higher prices. Higher prices are also being fueled by rising labor wages and worker shortages. Everything from higher raw materials to increased transportation and storage costs all play a part.

Many folks wonder if things will ever get back to normal. Probably not. We don’t tend to go back as a society, but rather use these challenges to move forward and navigate new and changed business channels and demands.
Customers looking at replacing their windows should plan on a 2-3 month turn around time from window measurements to installation. Sometimes things will move a bit quicker, which can be great news, but planning for longer lead times will leave homeowners feeling less frustrated. This can be a great time to use the longer wait to paint the walls, update window coverings, clear out clutter around the windows and prep for the install day.
Siding materials are also facing historic increases in prices and product availability. Here again, making a decision to go ahead with your project and utilizing the wait time to plan and prep your home can help deliver a smooth install when product arrives. Around the house, you can get things ready by clearing clutter and trimming back landscaping, trees and shrubbery.
The asphalt shingle supply chain in Colorado has been a bit steadier the last couple of years. We’ve certainly seen rising prices because of petroleum, labor prices and transportation increases, but supply had been able to keep up with demand. This follows two very mild hail seasons along the front range. If this summer’s La Nina weather pattern plays out as expected, Colorado may see more hail than normal. Increased demand following a hailstorm will cause some supply chain crunches here as well, so be aware that all may not be smooth sailing through the summer storm season.
